As a girl from a small town (in a very small country), I've always aspired to something more, something better. Not necessarily more money or more things, but a life rich with experiences and achievements. I've always wanted to live a happy and successful life, with a touch of glamour. At the same time, I've had a lifelong love and passion for France and everything French. I owe it to my beloved late Grandma - she lived in France when she was a young girl, and she always remembered those years with a smile and a little twinkle in her eyes. I was fascinated by her stories, and I wanted to discover that beautiful country and its magnificent language for myself.
Fast forward several years, and I found myself working as an au-pair in the southeast of France. Even if I spent three years stundying French back home, at first I didn't understand a single word (except for Bonjour, of course), and I wasn't able to utter a phrase without feeling ridiculous. But I was fortunate to live with a family that was beyond kind and helpful, and with their continuous encouragement and help I was able to feel more confident. I returned to them every summer for 5 years and with every day spent there, my French became better and better and I fell irrevocably in love not only with the language but with the food, the variety of French landscapes, the books, the music and the lifestyle in general.
When the time came to choose my Master's Degree, I didn't hesitate for a second: I chose political science in Paris, and never looked back. It was the first time in my life that I felt truly independent - even living in my teeny tiny dorm room felt fantastic because I was living on my own for the very first time. Learning my way around the campus, understanding Parisian metro, visiting Louvre almost every Friday night, eating freshly baked baguettes and strolling down Champs-Elysées - everything made me extatic with joy and happiness. The French has become my second mother tongue.
Today, even if I'm not living in Paris anymore, I'm sure that one day I'll pack our little world once again and I'll move back to France. I'll have a beautiful city apartment with high ceilings and moulding, as well as a charming summer house à la campagne, with a romantic fireplace and a few rooms for my friends and family.
