Glamorous touch: Notebooks

Image via BOUND

I've always been big on collecting beautiful things: whether it's cookbooks, Vogue issues, lipsticks or nail polishes, having a curated collection of something that inspires me and makes me happy feels really important to me. And if there's one thing I've been collecting for all my life, it's pretty notebooks. There's something so special and enchanting about opening a new journal: it holds a promise of new beginnings, new ideas and inspirations, of motivating words of wisdom as well as random ramblings. Memory can be such a fickle and unreliable thing, and there are too many beautiful and memorable things in our lives that merit to be recorded and remembered!

Sometimes, when I feel like going down the memory lane, there's nothing more satisfying than picking up an old journal and diving into my old writings and ramblings: remembering my first loves and unrequited crushes alike, recalling the experiences from my travels, and laughing about my old childhood and teenage concerns ("Dear diary, I'm afraid he's just not that into me!" - I guess we've all been there :) My notebooks aren't all diaries: sometimes they're just a collection of random ideas, inspirations and things that crossed my mind, but they are extremely precious to me. They are witnesses to who I am, who I used to be, and who I aspire to be in the future. They are me.

That's why I keep adding more and more notebooks to my collection: sometimes I start to write inside, and never get to the last page, sometimes one of them is just too pretty to spoil with writing, sometimes it's full of torn out pages and scratched phrases. But I would never ever throw one out.

Below you can find my current favorites: some of them I already own (like this one and this one), some of them are on their way to me (like this one, this one and this one), and some of them I'm simply coveting, for their price tag is just too hefty (I'm looking at you, Smythson!)

I would love to hear your own notebook stories (if you have them): do you keep a journal? Do you have the same tendency to hoard pretty notebooks? Or do you just grab a random Post-it when inspiration strikes? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Oh! So many pretty ones! Great post once again :) I'm not so good in keeping journals anymore but I do write down or save a photo on my laptop when something catches my eye/inspires me. I have one Moleskin notebook where I have written down my wishes or things to do in the future and I might get back to it today and see if I can cross some of them. That always makes me feel great, that feeling of crossing off something that's been on your wish list. :)

Thank you Natali! I know exactly what you mean: crossing things off of your wish list is one of the best feelings I know! I'm pretty sure you'll be able to cross a bunch of things off, you've accomplished so much this year!
And I'm just like you: I'm not good at keeping a normal journal, that's why I love the "One line a day" journal: you only have to write a few phrases, which makes you focus only on the positive things. I love it!
Have a wonderful day, my dear!

  7. Journaling is like a lost art in this day and age. You collect the prettiest things Ivana! And your picks are so charming too! I love the Sugar Paper polka dot journal and think I need to have one :) I used have such a thing for stationery and notebooks but as I got married and moved around I just kind of stopped buying them.

I hear ya, Holly! My life is all about to do lists :) And Moleskine is such a classic, plus I love all the fun options they're offering: like the Little Prince one, or the raspberry pinkl hardcover...that one is already on its way. What can I say, I just love pink :)

Thank you, sweetie! I have such a weakness for everything pretty! Isn't that polka dot journal just adorable and chic? I love it, and I want all three colors :) I'm still wishing I would make more time in my schedule for journaling and snail mail...wouldn't it be a nice change from emails, texts and whatsapps?
