Mad Hatter
1. I'm late! I'm late! 2. Calooh! Callay! 3. Alice
Even if I tend to dress in a more contemporary style, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for beautiful vintage and vintage-inspired pieces. I guess I hold that from my wonderful Grandma who was a couturier and who used to make me the most beautiful little dresses, skirts and blouses. Unfortunately, she passed away too soon, before I could fully appreciate her golden hands (you can see one of her amazing designs here). I can only daydream about all the gorgeous pieces she could have made for me now, if she was still here.
When I discovered Shabby Apple a few months ago, I couldn't believe my eyes. I felt like I was transported back to my childhood, when I used to flip through my Grandma's perfectly preserved fashion magazines from 50s and 60s. All those feminine fabrics, flattering cuts, lace detailings and glamorous pearls speaked directly to my heart. I wanted to shop (in fact I still do) almost every single piece, and I now my Gran would approve! I've put together pieces from a few of my favorite collections: feel free to swoon with me over their beauty and perfection. Do you have a personal favorite?

Something extra
If you, like me, are ready to jump on the vintage-inspired train, it's very important not to overlook your beauty routine. Flawless skin, kissable pink cheeks, winged eyeliner, glamorous red lips and full lashes are all part of vintage beauty arsenal. You may not want to use them all at the same time (you don't want to look too costumey on a random day), but you should definitely give them a try, for these are beauty trends that will never ever go out of style. And why not go all the way with Benefit, a brand that has made vintage-inspired packaging its very own trademark? I'm already a huge fan of their HighBeam and Porefessional primer, and I'd be happy to fill my vanity with any of their cute and adorable designs!

ReplyDeleteI love Shabby Apple too, even did a blog post about them :) I love the 1943 and palm spring collections, so much fun and young.
ReplyDeleteHard to pick a favorite when I really like them all! I love vintage looks!

I don't usually do a dark eye with red lipstick. I agree with you on it being too much. I did, however, wear a really dark smokey eye and bright red lipstick last weekend. But it was for a performance so it was acceptable. The audience has to be able to see your face from the stage! I tried to explain this to my husband and he didn't quite get it. :)

I just love this post! I've had a little (ok... maybe not so little) obsession with Shabby Apple ever since I stumbled upon their website a while back. But I've never purchased any of their beautiful dresses. :( I need to really soon and these ones you've picked out are really tempting me. I've always loved the 50s look so these are right up my alley. And Benefit Cosmetics are so much fun! That red lipstick looks like the perfect retro red shade.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, per the usual!

I was a fan of Shabby Apple before they even recently sponsored a giveaway on my blog. Their vintage styling has a fresh ladylike feel and it's great how most items are under $100. Your grandmother's design still looks very chic and fresh for today.
