From my kitchen: Bavarian apple pie

Trying out new and interesting recipes is definitely one of my favorite activities. However, there's something really comforting about the tried and tested treats, especially in winter, when the comfort food is all I need to be happy. And what's more classic than an apple pie?

This recipe, published in the November issue of InStyle, immediately caught my eye. It combines two of my favorite seasonal elements: autumn apples and winter cinnamon. I only replaced dried cranberries with raisin (which, by the way, I adore). And what's even better, the smell of apples and cinnamon lingered in our place for a few hours, making it all festive.

DIY Advent calendar

Since I almost missed the first Advent Sunday (you can see my hand made Advent wrearh here), I made sure to have my Advent Calendar ready on time. I love the idea of home made Advent calendar, it's much more personal and enjoyable than those you can buy in the mall! That's why I made another trip to the crafts shop, stocked up on sweets and candy and spent the whole Monday afternoon cutting, gluing and tying (and eating candy, of course :) And this is what I got in the end:

If you want to try and make the same one for yourself, here are the instructions:

What I needed:
* two rolls of patterned wrapping paper (this year, my Christmas decorations are all in purple & green)
* 2 sheets of colored paper (purple and green again)
* 1 roll of crepe paper (hot pink)
* thin decorative ribbon and string ribbon
* scissors, cutter, crafts glue, adhesive tape

1. I drew and cut the cone template: 15cm x 21cm (and I made the curve with the help of a simple plate).

2. I cut 24 shapes from the patterned paper (12 from each color).

3. I rolled the sheets into cones, glued them and then secured the seam with a little piece of adhesive tape (just in case).

4. I glued star confetti to each cone.

5. I cut the circles from colored paper (again, 12 from each color) and wrote the numbers from 1 to 24 on them.

6. With the help of a cutter I made the little holes in which I secured a thin ribbon.

7. I tied the number tags to the cones, and secured with adhesive tape.

8. Now I prepared the little candy packages: I cut 24 circles from crepe paper, I put chocolates and candy inside, wrapped into small packets and tied with the ribbon.

9. I secured a piece of string ribbon on the windows, attached the cones with colored clothespins and filled them with little packages.

11. VoilĂ !

Happy Advent snacking!

My style: Green with envy

Dorothy Perkins dress, Asos clutch, Zara pumps, Tally Weijl belt, Forever 21 necklace and bracelet, Six hoops, hairclip and rings,  Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense n.34, Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Flirt Nail Polish, Sephora by OPI Traffic-Stopper Copper Nail Polish

Ever since I posted this Mix & Match Friday's Fancies ensemble, I've been wanting to create a "real" mix & match outfit. Mixing and matching prints and textures is an entirely new thing to me, so I decided to play it safe and stick to various shades of one color. And I wasn't disappointed: green lace and green snakeskin print look amazing together! To add a little bit of drama, I threw on a studded belt and a few pounds worth of costume jewelry. A swipe of magenta lipstick was the perfect finishing touch and for a moment I felt like a movie star :) Now that I know that it works, I'll be sure to experiment in the mix & match department again really soon!

DIY: Last minute Advent wreath

I can hardly believe that today is the first Advent Sunday! How come the 2011 has fled so fast? The Christmas market in Graz kicked off last weekend and all the Christmas songs are being played on the radio. For me, the Christmas time doesn't really start until I hear Wham's Last Christmas...how appropriate that the first time I heard this song this year was just yesterday, while I was putting together my Advent wreath!

It's the first time I made it from scratch, instead of buying it. And yet I must say, that due to the lack of calendars in our house, I almost missed the first Advent weekend! It hit me just when I was browsing the Farmers Market on Saturday morning: I was seeing the Advent wreaths everywhere! I bough one prearranged pine wreath, I made one quick stop at my favorite crafts shop and I set myself to work: I attached thin green wire to four vanilla-scented advent candles and four little gift box ornaments and secured them on the wreath. Then I wrapped a shimmery garland all around the wreath and voilĂ ! It´s really as simple as that.

A Thousand Years

Are you as obsessed with the Twilight Saga as I am? Aside from all those vampires-werewolves battles, it's such a beautiful and timeless love story. Aren't we all dreaming about love that conquers all? Call me a hopeless romantic, but I assume...and by the way, I'm Team Edward all the way!
I haven't got a chance to watch the last movie yet, but this video makes me want to run to the cinema pretty badly! This song has been played over and over again in my iTunes for the pas few days, and I love it more and more every time I hear it.

My style: Kimono dress + My first week in Graz

Dorothy Perkins dress and ring, H&M clutch, flower pin and earrings, Claire´s bracelets, Deichmann pumps

I have successfully survived my first week in Graz, and I can already tell that I'm absolutely smitten with this beautiful city. The thing I appreciate the most is probably its "human" size: compared to Paris it may seem small, but I simply love the fact that I can walk everywhere (no subway required!). We have a daily Farmers market 5 minutes from our apartment, and the biggest shopping rue is only 10 minutes away. Say hello to one happy girl!

Plus, people are really nice here, they seem to appreciate my feeble attempts to speak German, and they all speak English, which helps a lot. But I'm pretty sure I´ll be sharing more than one embarrassing language-related story with you!
Happy Monday to everyone!
