Friday's Fancies #19: Happy Halloween!

It's been a few years that Halloween celebrations appeared in Slovakia, and every now and then I get a glimpse of people in costumes, or carved pumpkins displayed in the windows. Yet, I  must confess that I've never really got to grow fond of this holiday. However, this doesn't prevent me from loving the typical Halloween color combo: orange and black. These two colors look exceptionally good together: orange livens up the basic black, while black tames a little bit the flashy tangerine hue. I had a lot of fun (as always) pulling together this week´s Friday's Fancies ensemble: bright colored pants are something I've always wanted to try but I never found a well-fitting pair. It all comes down to my hourglass figure, that is totally ignored by almost all the retailers. I say "Thank you Levi's" every morning when I pull on my Curve ID's, otherwise I'd never wear jeans. Maybe they'll do a colored collection one day...and while I'm daydreaming, check out not only my Halloween ensemble, but all the fabulous outfits over at Long distance loving!

Dress like a star: Red pants

Rachel Bilson has always been one of my style icons. I very much admire her chic, yet effortless style, and her ability to mix and match trendy pieces with more classic items. I'm always looking forward to her red carpet appearances, and I draw a lot of inspiration even from her casual day-to-day style. Plus, I simply adore her new CW show, Hart of Dixie: Rachel is so beautiful, smart and sexy there. The show about Doctor Zoe Hart, an ultimate New Yorker "exiled" in Bluebell, Alabama, is absolutely hilarious. Fashionably speaking, what I adore on this show is how Rachel's / Zoe's stylish New York clothes totally clash with the cute and saccharine southern spirit of Alabama (and I confess, I have a secret crush on Wilson Bethel, alias Bluebell's residential bad boy Wade Kinsella :) Eye candy for the win!

On another note, well-cut red pants should have their place in every gal's closet. They are a much more vibrant and fun alternative to the classic black ones, and they'll give you an instant confidence boost. Paired with a floral button-down and a structured black clutch, they'll make a perfect workday outfit. A pair of leopard pumps gives this outfit that extra wow factor that can take it from meeting to cocktails.

When wearing such a bold outfit, you should have a light hand with your makeup. A black liner and a swipe of rosy lip gloss will make you look perfect!

Friday's Fancies #18: Think pink

October is the National month of Breast Cancer Awareness, and even if I'm not American, I can definitely subscribe to and support this cause.It's not about your nationality, it's about your life. It's more than important for each and every one of us to learn as much as possible about this disease. That's why I highly recommend to read a post written by my dear friend Vanessa (from Decadence for Divas). It's the most passionate and sincere text and it's given me a lot to think about. I hope it'll do the same for you.

This important case is honored in this week's Friday's Fancies and I've rounded up several beautiful pink items that will remind me of the importance of being aware...

Dress like a star: Kimono blouse

For as long as I can remember, I've always been a "dress & skirt person" (as seen here and here): I just can't resist a great dress with a form-fitting cut, or a gorgeous skirt that flatters my hourglass figure. With that said, I confess, I love myself a great casual look as well: there's something so comforting and easy in throwing on your favorite pair of jeans, a perfectly worn-in tee and a biker jacket. But sometimes a simple t-shirt doesn't cut it, especially when you feel like wearing something more sophisticated yet not too girly. Enter: kimono blouse. I'm not quite familiar with this garment, but when I saw Glee's Lea Michele wearing it in Paris, I was instantly enamored. It feels so chic and comfy at the same time. Thanks to its ingenious cut it looks both relaxed and polished. I would love to recreate Lea's whole look with the following pieces:

Dress like a star: Lace & Blush

So it seems, that I simply can't get over the lace. It's such a beautiful and feminine fabric that can be equal parts sexy and demure. I must admit that the white lace has never been my favorite, as it often may look too bridal. But as always, it's all about the right styling, and when I first saw this picture of Rachel Bilson, I knew that was it! A structured rosy nude blazer keeps the white lace dress from looking overly saccharine, and the grey suede pumps add just the right amount of edge. The whole look is completed with a soft makeup dominated by glossy rose lips. Perfection.

Friday's Fancies #16: Blazer beauty

I know I can always count on the lovely {av} from Long distance loving to choose the best and the most interesting themes for my favorite Friday's Fancies link-up. This week I've been doing some serious brainstorming on the beauty of blazers, and I couldn't be happier with the result! A great blazer is something that will never go out of style, never mind the color, length or price point. It will always make you feel more polished and elegant. This is what my dream "all about blazer" outfit would look like:

1. This berry-colored blazer has immediately caught my eye. It has the most beautiful cut and color I've seen in a while. My favorite way to wear a blazer is to throw it over a more casual outfit: a great pair of jeans and a relaxed tee. But this one would look even better with a all-white dress or some sexy skirt...

2. this one, for example. I've been looking for the perfect leather skirt longer that I care to admit, and I finally think that this Alice + Olivia number might be THE one. The pleats make it look playful and fun, but thanks to the polished leather it still has this elegant and sexy feel to it. Perfection.

3. Those of you who check out my blog regularly know, that I'm a huge fan of ankle boots. I think they're just the best shoes for fall: they keep your feet warm in the chilly mornings, and they don't look too stuffy. It's not a secret either that I love everything Rachel Zoe does, and these Audrey booties are bananas :)

4. Recently I realized that a classic black bag had been missing in my collection. Luckily I've discovered this beautiful quilted hobo bag by Fiorelli. I didn't hesitate, and it´s already on its way to me :) Check!

5. I'm really into jewel tones this fall, that's why I'm so in love with this perfect emerald nail polish. Essie´s Trophy Wife is equally chic and edgy, and I love the subtle shimmer it gives to my nails.

6. A swipe of cherry-colored lipstick is all it takes to transform a lousy morning into something more polished and glamorous.

Be sure to get some serious style inspiration from all the fabulous ensembles at Long distance loving!

Real talk: Live what you love

(Image via)

"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."

My style: Vintage polka dots

Vintage polka dot dress and belt, Dorothy Perkins sandals and clutch, Ray Ban Aviators, Bizuteria snov bangle. Tally Weijl earrings

I can´t believe that I waited this long to raid my Mom's closet. When I look at her old pictures, I can't help but admire her impeccable taste and style. At the same time, my Gran was a seamstress, so she was always in advance on all trends and she always made the most beautiful pieces for my Mom.
I took advantage of the last beautiful days of Indian summer to pull out this amazing polka dot dress and a pair of sandals. But as the chilly mornings indicate, the summer is definitely over and soon I'll be able to enjoy one of my favorite fashion exercises: layering.

Little things

{New-to-me vintage alarm clock, inherited from my Gran}

{I love my iPad! Now I'm finally able to check out my favorite blogs everywhere I go, I can publish my own posts right from my bed, and I've been watching all the seasons of The Rachel Zoe Project for the past few days on it. Following my gut, I bought this Marc by Marc Jacobs case and it's just adorable!}

{I finally received my package from Barnes & Noble, with the Decorate and Design*Sponge books. I can't wait to use all the great ideas while decorating our new apartment in Graz. We still haven't found the perfect one, but I'm optimistic. I'm sure it´s waiting for us out there :) }

{I've recently discovered Crabtree & Evelyn cosmetics, and I immediately fell in love with their fun packages, amazing textures and beautiful scents. This Citron Hand Therapy has quickly become one of my favorites. My hands are soft and moisturized, plus they smell more than wonderfully}

{A stack of Alexander Wang-inspired tees that I scored in end-of-summer sales. I'm already looking forward to pairing them with tailored trousers, skinny jeans and structured blazers.}
